Pre-K / Kindergarten

-is a program that with dedication we can teach the essential elements, give reinforcements and teach the core foundation that is needed and through the hard work and teachings of teachers we will build a bright future for every child that enters IWA. At IWA it is very important that we instill the Core Values on each student to make them aware of each Core Value and its representation making them aware that at the long run, the core value will help them through their entire life and future. Having the knowledge, power of prayer, the strength, the faith and most of all the teachings of Jesus will ensure that there is a bright future for everyone!

Course of Study

    is a method of teaching students to correlate letters sounds with letters or groups of letters in an alphabetic writing system and it is taught daily with worksheets.

    Course Content: The student(s) will be able to: (below are some examples)

  • Identifying upper/lower case letters
  • Producing letter sounds
  • Phonics worksheets
  • Coding of words (macron/breve)
  • Scantron test
  • Use of smart board

    spelling, and introduction to grammar (nouns/verbs), and is a subject taught daily.

    Course Content: The student(s) will be able to: (below are some examples)

  • Uses proper spacing between letters, words and sentences
  • Knows and writes letters in sequence
  • Tracing of letters (Upper / Lower Case)
  • Introduced to nouns/verbs (grammar)
  • Defining the difference of Fiction and Non-Fiction

    is the study of relationship, structure, shapes, graphs, numbers and problem solving. Through math, students learn to observe, predict, analyze and solve problems related to routine daily tasks and are taught daily.

    Course Content: The student(s) will be able to: (below are some examples)

  • Count by 1’s, 5's, 10's
  • Value of coins
  • Use numbers to describe group objects
  • Simple fractions
  • Addition/subtraction
  • Use cubes for addition / subtracting
  • Telling time (clocks)
  • Graphs (pictographs / picture graphs)
  • 3D Geometric shapes
  • Place Value Chart

    the process of writing or naming the letters of a word and the way the word is spelled. The spelling process takes memorization and letter sounds to start spelling words and it is taught verbally daily and on written form twice a week and tests are done every Friday verbally or on written form.

    is a program that is done silently or aloud. Reading is also done in groups or individually. Reading is done also, in form of written or printed manner. To start reading the student must know their letters and sounds.

    is the belief and worship of God to its highest value and practicing our morals, and commandments. Religion is also, taught in some subjects’ areas such as Math (Noah had to build an Ark/measurements), Science (the creation of the world), Social Studies/Geography (Jesus teachings, celebrations and places Jesus visiting and preaching sites), Reading (the gospel and scriptures from the bible) and foremost it is faith, worship and believing what cannot be seen and that Prayer is powerful.

    The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is an approach to the religious formation of children that is based on the relationship of God and the Child. Our role as adults is to protect and nurture this bond. In the Catechesis we present age-appropriate themes from the Bible and our liturgy with manipulative materials the children use to internalize and ponder the great mysteries of our faith.

  • to predict what Vestment (Chasuble) the priest will use in Mass

    is the study of geography, history, and government and encouraging future students to become commissioners, senators and/or President of the U.S.

    is the study of trying to understand the world we live in. Knowledge of physical or material world gained through observations and experimentation. Science is taught daily and experiments are done three times a month.

    the study of how to avoid illness or injury and the knowledge of how to take care of your body and protect yourself from occurring injuries.

    writing with a pen or pencil. Practicing writing on a daily basis with spacing in between words and making sure the letters are not floating letters and to determine when to use upper and lower-case letters.

    is important because it educates students about the importance of sports and fitness. Physical education also involves coordinated training on discipline and sportsmanship and gives instruction in physical exercise and games in schools. We attend Physical Education three times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

    vocal or instrumental sounds (or both) combined in such a way as to produce vocal sounds, and expression of emotions. We attend Music class once a week.

    the expression of creativity, imagination, a visual form such as painting, and producing art works to be appreciated for their beauty and creativity.

    a program that gets 8th grade students motivated to adopt a Pre-K and kindergarten student for the year. They interact with them by helping them with their studies, activities and conduct. The 8th graders play a very critical role as role models, at the same time they learn to respect what life may bring them in the near future. They participate in many special events during year. They visit the students twice a week for 40 minutes. They bond with each other. It’s a beautiful program and they leave at the end of the year with a sense of responsibility and with a lot of memories.
